'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the nail-biting closing stages of Swansea's epic comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game ended with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful effort from outside the box, and Cameron Burgess quickly slammed home the loose ball before sprinting toward the crowd to celebrate, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory sealed an incredible comeback given the team had been behind 2-0 midway through the latter period. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win secured a next round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for having a go from that far out," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right defensive wing after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the City players who complimented the way his former team approached the match.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can feel you're doing well and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and attention just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he reunited with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that growth for his team and nation, excelling for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including both legs fixtures against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks a remarkable path for the player from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who grew up watching his father, his father, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the host city, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was sealed owing to the weather of -15C. "This represented a long trip and it was freezing," he comments, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "This turned out fairly simple, because I reached the point where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I thought I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a driving theory test, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by academy staff, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Fan Interactions

During his time at Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on London's Central line after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
